Community

Community Engagement and Social Action

We run a concentric community:

  • In the innermost level is the Kingdom community of saints bound by love of God and each other.
  • In the outer level, we love our community.
  • Because our mandate is global, we care for peoples of all nations in the world. Matthew 24:14, Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 1:8

Elm Park Day

We participate in the annual event designed to mark the founding of the Community in which we are planted. We hand out cold drinks, Sweets as well as Books and Tract.

Cleaning for the Queen

we took responsibility for cleaning up the town along with other responsible citizens who responded to an appeal from our Councillors.

Civic Functions

Arise Metropolitan Assembly believes and practices the mandate of Jesus to be the Salt which seasons and preserves as well as the Light which illuminates the Community. A few of the engagements we have made by Grace in this regard are outlined here.

During the tenure of Councillor Georgina Galpin as Mayor of the London Borough of Havering we partnered with her to support the nominated Charity, Age Concern throughout the year. Our Overseer Apostle George was invited to open the Council year for her tenure in prayer. At end of her tenure, Arise Metropolitan Assembly hosted a send forth service in her honour with London Metropolitan Forum at YMCA hall, Romford.

We also supported the school for special needs children

Our congregation enjoys excellent relationship with the Counsellors who represent Elm Park Ward.

When the former Hornchurch Constituency of the UK Parliament was re-drawn Arise Metropolitan Assembly hosted a send forth party for our former Member of Parliament, James Brokenshire.

Ministry to the Homeless

We believe that no ministry should keep a blind eye or deaf ear to self-evident needs of vulnerable or suffering members of our community. Here are some of our responses to felt needs:

Weekly Feeding of the Homeless/those who sleep rough. Each Saturday since 2016, a team from the ministry cooks and serves the homeless in the night shelter run by Hope4Havering, a ministry we admire the excellent work they do.

Sunday Morning Service – in the same way, another team from this ministry organises a breakfast for the homeless and those who sleep rough every Sunday morning between 7.30 – 8.30. It features sandwiches, fruits, hot drinks served throughout the year. We supply Sleeping bags and bags of hope - filled with toiletries, underwear and survival kits - at the coldest season of the year.

Christmas Parties – we organise these to soften the pain of homelessness and loneliness by preparing 3 course meals, non-alcoholic wines and other nibbles for the homeless.

Rehousing Supply – when the Homeless are due for re-housing, we come alongside to supply some of the items needed to make them settle down to a more comfortable life.

Volunteer at Sennen Cottage

Apostle George Akalonu, our Overseer and other brethren have volunteered since 2016 to support clients at Hope4Havering using the Word to deliver discipleship and training programme they acclaim as truly liberating.
